2006 01 22 Pyramid Lake, Smoke Creek

This was another day trip from Truckee. Unlike yesterday, which was gray and snowy, this was a relatively warm sunny day. I drove east from Truckee and the north to Pyramid Lake. (Most of the lake lies within the Paiute Reservation. I have written to the tribal council hoping to get permission to photograph the tufa at The Needles at the north end of the lake.)

There is a very nice stand of cottonwood trees on the west side of the lake. I think they have been in the prevailing wind from the southwest for a long time. I shot some panoramic images here, both of the trees and the lake.

To the north and west of Pyramid Lake there is another wonderful little bootleg junkyard out in the sage. This is near the railroad crossing called Finnegan. All manner of cool stuff sitting in the desert. It looks someone brought a few dozen junk televisions out here at one time and shot them all up. The usual assortment of cars, appliances, bottles, and a lot of shell casings.

As the sun got low I shot some film here too.
